Welcome to Camino Counselling (“we,” “us,” or “our”). These Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) govern your use of our counselling services, including in-person sessions in Alberta, Canada, and virtual counselling services provided to clients across Canada. By accessing or using our services, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use our services.

    1. Services Provided

We offer professional counselling services, including but not limited to individual, family, and group therapy, provided by licensed counsellors in Alberta. Services are delivered either in-person at our Alberta office or virtually via secure telehealth platforms to clients in other Canadian provinces where permitted by applicable laws and regulations.

    Eligibility

    • You must be at least 19 years of age to independently access our services in Alberta, as per provincial regulations, unless accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
    • For virtual services, you must be a resident of Canada and located in a province where our counsellors are permitted to practice under their licensing regulations.
    • You must provide accurate and complete information during registration to ensure we can deliver appropriate care.

    2. Booking and Payment

    • Appointments: Sessions are booked through our website or by contacting our office. We require at least 24 hours’ notice for cancellations or rescheduling, or you may be charged a cancellation fee equivalent to the session cost.
    • Fees: Fees for services are outlined on our website or provided during booking. Payment is due at the time of service unless otherwise agreed. We accept credit cards and e-Transfer.
    • Insurance: Some services may be covered by private insurance plans. It is your responsibility to verify coverage with your provider. We can provide receipts for reimbursement but do not directly bill insurance providers.
    • Refunds: Refunds are not provided for completed sessions. Prepaid sessions may be refunded at our discretion, subject to an administrative fee.

    3. Confidentiality and Privacy

    • Confidentiality: All sessions are confidential, subject to legal exceptions (e.g., risk of harm to self or others, court orders, or mandatory reporting requirements under Alberta’s Child, Youth and Family Enhancement Act or other applicable laws).
    • Privacy Policy: Your personal information is protected in accordance with Alberta’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) and Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). Please review our Privacy Policy for details on how we collect, use, and store your data.
    • Virtual Services: We use secure, encrypted telehealth platforms compliant with Canadian privacy laws. You are responsible for ensuring a private and secure environment during virtual sessions.

    4. Client Responsibilities

    • Provide accurate health and personal information to ensure safe and effective counselling.
    • Attend sessions on time and comply with our cancellation policy.
    • For virtual sessions, ensure a stable internet connection and a private, distraction-free environment.
    • Refrain from recording sessions without written consent from your counsellor.

    5. Limitations of Services

    • Scope of Practice: Our counsellors provide therapeutic support within their professional scope. We do not provide medical diagnoses, prescriptions, or emergency services.
    • Emergency Situations: If you are experiencing a mental health crisis, contact 911, a local crisis line, or visit the nearest emergency room. Our services are not a substitute for emergency care.
    • Interprovincial Regulations: Virtual services are subject to the licensing regulations of the province where you are located. We will inform you if we are unable to provide services in your province.

    6. Termination of Services

We reserve the right to terminate services if:

    • You fail to comply with these Terms.
    • Your needs fall outside our scope of practice.
    • Payment is not received as agreed.
    • You engage in inappropriate behavior, including harassment or abuse toward staff.

You may discontinue services at any time by notifying us in writing.

    7. Liability

    • We strive to provide high-quality counselling services but cannot guarantee specific outcomes.
    • To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any direct, indirect, or consequential damages arising from your use of our services.
    • You agree to indemnify us against claims arising from your breach of these Terms or misuse of our services.

    8. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Alberta and applicable federal laws of Canada. Any disputes will be resolved in the courts of Alberta.
