• Do I need a referral?

No. A referral is not required to book an appointment. You are welcome to contact me directly and book online at any time.

Do you offer initial consultations? Are they free?

Yes. I offer a free 20-minute initial consultation by phone or video.

This is an opportunity to briefly discuss what you are looking for, ask questions, and see whether my services are a good fit for your needs. There is no obligation to continue after the consultation.

How often should I attend counselling? How long does counselling usually last?

There is no single “right” schedule for counselling. The frequency and length of therapy depend on your goals, preferences, and the nature of the concerns you would like to address.

Some clients attend weekly or bi-weekly for a period of time, while others prefer more occasional sessions or short-term support around specific challenges. This can be discussed collaboratively and adjusted as your needs change.

What type of counselling do you offer?

I provide counselling for a wide range of concerns, including emotional wellbeing, stress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, life transitions, identity concerns, and personal growth.

Services are offered virtually by secure video or phone.

Do you offer individual, couples, and family counselling?

    Yes. I provide counselling for:

    • Individuals
    • Couples
    • Families

Sessions are tailored to the needs and goals of those attending.

Do you work with children or adolescents?

Yes. I work with clients of all ages, including children and adolescents.

If a young client requires highly specialized or intensive services that fall outside my scope of practice, I will discuss this with the family and assist with appropriate referrals to ensure they receive the best possible care.

What therapeutic approaches do you use?

My work is integrative and tailored to each client. Approaches I commonly draw from include:

    • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
    • Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT)
    • Psychodynamic therapy
    • Person-centred therapy

This allows sessions to be flexible, collaborative, and responsive to your individual needs and goals.

    Do you offer crisis counselling?

I do not provide ongoing crisis or after-hours emergency services.

If you are experiencing an immediate mental health emergency, please call 911 or go to your nearest emergency department.

    You may also contact:

    • Talk Suicide Canada: 1-833-456-4566
    • Alberta Health Services Mental Health Help Line: 1-877-303-2642

If you are unsure about your level of risk, these services can help assess your situation and connect you with appropriate support.

Can sessions be covered by my benefits?

Many extended health benefit plans in Canada provide coverage for services delivered by a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) or registered psychologist. Coverage varies by provider and plan, so it is best to confirm directly with your insurance company to understand your specific benefits and any limits or requirements.

Do you provide receipts for insurance?

Yes. After each session, you will receive a detailed receipt that you can submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement.

    When is payment due?

Payment is due at the time of your appointment.

Do you offer sliding scale or reduced fees?

Yes. A limited number of sliding scale spots are available based on financial need.

If cost is a barrier to accessing counselling, you are welcome to mention this during your initial consultation or when booking. We can briefly discuss your situation and determine whether a reduced fee option is available at that time.

Can you see clients outside of Alberta?

Services are offered to clients who are physically located in Alberta at the time of their session.

Mental health professionals must follow provincial regulations regarding where services can be provided, and availability outside Alberta depends on licensing and regulatory requirements in the client’s location.

What professional standards do you follow?

I follow the ethical and professional standards set by:

    • The Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA)
    • The Canadian Code of Ethics for Psychologists (CPA) as a guiding framework for best practices in psychological care
    • Applicable provincial and federal privacy legislation

These standards guide confidentiality, informed consent, professional boundaries, record-keeping, and client safety.

What is a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC)?

A Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) is a nationally recognized professional designation granted by the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA).

To hold this designation, counsellors must meet specific requirements related to:

    • Graduate-level education in counselling or psychology
    • Supervised clinical experience
    • Ongoing professional development
    • Adherence to a formal code of ethics

The CCC designation helps ensure that clients receive services from a trained and accountable mental health professional.
